Today the average prom dress costs $100 to $600. The prom dress is the biggest priority for the average teenage girl, but most budgets cannot accommodate the high price point.
Thankfully the Ann Arbor Prom Dress Project is here to help. For 8 years now, Jan Wery has been collecting, cleaning and mending, and then selling prom dresses to local girls at the more reasonable price of $10 - $35. After speaking with Jan it is so evident that this is a great passion for her. She recognized that prom dresses were being turned into the local thrift shop and girls were not coming in to get them. Or dresses were hanging untouched for years in closets when they could be utilized again.
With the help of many volunteers, Jan is able to collect hundreds of prom dresses each year. The dresses are dry-cleaned and mended. Then for one day only local girls can come and shop for their dream prom dress! The shop has even created fitting rooms and full length mirrors so the girls really get the total experience.
The sale will include over 900 long prom dresses and 250 short special occasion dresses in sizes 0-24. All $10-$35 each. Cash only. Sales intended for teens to attend their prom or special event.
