Road Trip Scavenger Hunt

Keeping Kids Busy & Entertained During Long Road Trips

By Nicole Barragato, Publisher, Macaroni Kid Ann Arbor July 21, 2020

Every year we enjoy a family road trip to visit friends in beautiful Traverse City. This is a much needed break from the normal pace of life and includes plenty of sand, sun, and lake time! The only negative can sometimes be the long car ride with our two small children who are both full of energy. I believe we usual get "Are we there yet" before our tires even reverse fully out of the driveway. It is essential to make sure that the car if equipped with all the snack and activities to keep two busy minds engaged.

An easy way to keep kids having fun is by giving them a scavenger hunt. My friend LeAnn is a wonderful artist who started her own company of unique artwork called The Little Pencil Company. She graciously created this beautiful scavenger hunt for you all to use on your road trips!

Other ideas to keep your kid busy and active in quality family time in the car:

Eye-Spy - Caller picks an object, animal, or person and the other players ask questions to figure out the answer.

I'm Going on a Picnic - Each person said an item that they would bring to the picnic, the next person repeats the list and adds an additional item. See how long you can get this silly list to be!

Silly Stories - Have one person start the story, the next person adds a few sentences to the story and so on. Just how ridiculous will your story be?

Dance Parties - Play your favorite songs or search the radio for silly songs of years past. Turn your back seat into a Disco Inferno!

The great part about car activities is that they don't require really any money to have fun! Also think about all of the wonderful memories that you are creating as a family.
