Goldfish Swim School - Keeping Families SAFE In and Out of the Pool

By Nicole Barragato, Publisher, Macaroni Kid Ann Arbor August 11, 2020

Today my girls had their first swim lesson since COVID-19 happened and as a parent I was so impressed by all of the safety measures both in and out of the pool. No longer do parents just worry about the safety of their children in the pool, now we have to wrestle with is it safe for my child to go to an establishment.

Before I even arrived to Goldfish Swim School in Ann Arbor, I had received a lengthy email documenting all of the safety precautions that they were implementing. I am happy to report that these were not just words in an email, but I witnessed firsthand that it truly was their action plan. I instantly felt safe knowing that the staff at Goldfish Swim School were going above and beyond for the health and safety of my two girls.

Here are Goldfish Swim School's current Sanitation and Protective Measures:

  • Temperature and symptom checks of all team members upon shift arrival.
  • Personal Protection Equipment provided and worn by team members where applicable at all times. Front Desk staff will be wearing masks, teachers in water, deck supervisors, and lifeguards will be wearing face shields.
  • New Entrance and exit requirements for members to enhance social distancing in and around the facility.
  • Chairs in the viewing area will be labeled with a number that corresponds to the lane your child is in and we will ask that you sit in the appropriate chair.
  • Only one parent is allowed in the facility per swimmer.
  • Staff will enter and exit only through the staff room door and will not use changing rooms.
  • Adjusted ‘holds’ and swim lesson techniques and celebrations where appropriate to help minimize contact.
  • Thorough sanitization of the pool deck and shower areas nightly.
  • Frequent sanitizing sweeps of our facility, with a member of our team dedicated to disinfecting commonly touched areas after every lesson using an electrostatic sprayer.
  • Nightly professional deep-clean sanitization of the entire facility.
  • ‘Touchless Check-In’
  • Upon reopening, no more than 6 classes will be running at the same time with 22 or less students in the water at the same time.
  • Reduced capacity to allow 6 foot social distancing in the viewing area.
  • Pool toys and equipment usage will be scaled back where applicable; all toys and equipment will be sanitized between uses.
  • Cashless Transactions - any Treasure Island Retail Items or Snack Shack Purchases will be charged to the credit card on your account.
  • All members above the age of 3 will be required to wear a mask at all times in our facility when not in the water.

Parent's Perspective on Safety Precautions:

I really appreciated that each class had their own lane and the class sizes were super small. In fact, my girls were the only two with their teacher. The changing rooms are sanitized and sealed with a sticker after each use. Seating is spaced far apart for parents and the teachers are wearing face shields. Overall I felt very safe and was very impressed!

If you are looking for a safe activity for your children I would highly recommend Goldfish Swim School. To register or search for classes visit here. Goldfish Swim School is currently only offering swim lessons and not open swim.
