The Weekly - September 15, 2020

πŸ‚ WEEKLY UPDATE 🏈

I was watching the Lions play on Sunday with my husband, I know total disappointment in the last quarter, per their usual. We could be a great team if football only had three quarters 🀣Anyways, I was sitting there watching it and I suddenly recognized the noise of the crowd, but the stadium was empty. A quick Google search later and sure enough the NFL had decided to use a previously recorded crowd noise to give the home viewers a similar experience to what they are accustomed too.

The only issue I have is that full stadiums are no longer a reality. Life barely resembles what it looked like 6 months to a year ago and is a fake crowd noise something that anyone should really be investing their time into? Now hear me out, I appreciate what the NFL was trying to do and the person overseeing it did a wonderful job. But I am incredibly guilty of trying to get my life to return to exactly as it was before COVID-19 and there lies the issue. This of course always leads to disappointment because at the end of the game the stadium is still empty.

That disappointment if I allow it to starts to sow seeds of bitterness and resentment in my heart. If I am being completely honest, I have thrown tantrums in the past six months I am sure that could rival that of my 3 year old. So many things have changed, needed to be rescheduled, reimagined, or cancelled completely. This process if I allow it to can exhaust and break my already fragile state. Or, as a wise friend reminded me this past weekend, I can allow this process to refine me.

Refinement is not easy because change is never easy. So this week I am going to purposefully let some expectations go. I am not going to hold so tight to my plans. I am going to accept that the world is different, but different does not mean disappointing.

Hugs,

Nicole
